The Staffordshire Under 1650 Team has made a good start to the season with a draw against Derbyshire and a close win against Lincolnshire.
The Derbyshire
match was tight with lead changing several times. The last two ties to finish
were on adjacent boards, Staffs won the penultimate game and Derbyshire equalized
in the last.
Against
Lincolnshire we took a quick 3-0 lead with several draws. Gradually Lincs
pulled the tie around and it took two end game draws for Staffordshire to
secure the match by 9-7.
Players
from the following clubs played in the team: Alsager, Norton Canes, Rushall,
Newcastle-under-Lyme, Lichfield, Stafford and Meir. In the Lincolnshire match
we were joined by two players from the Brewood Chess Circle.
The next
match will be at Acton Trussell on Saturday 29th November when we
host Warwickshire. There will be further matches at both Under 1650 and Under
1850 level in the new year. If you wish to be considered for any of these
matches please contact team organiser Peter Evans.
