The U1450 Quarterfinal between Staffordshire and Essex was held on Saturday 13th May. The match was at Syston Social Club in Leicestershire and the venue was shared with the U1850 QF between Essex and Yorkshire. Thanks to Syston Social Club and the other County Associations for their arrangements. The team was a combination of five veterans from Staffordshire's 2019 Under 100 Champions, and newer players to County Chess, all expertly marshalled by skipper Stephen Smithson. Staffs took an early lead in the match, but we were unable to retain this under pressure from the higher rated Essex team. As the last games finished Essex took a deserved 7-5 lead.
