Staffordshire's Under 1650 hosted Warwickshire's Under 1650 team at the home of Bloxwich Junior Chess Academy on Saturday 29th October with the visitors taking the tie by one point. A morning call to the skipper produced two unavoidable absentees, but Steve Brown of Newcastle-Under-Lyme Chess Club and Peter Evans changing from non-playing to playing captain filled the gaps.
It was a tight result, at one time Staffs held a four board lead, but gradually Warwickshire reduced the lead an finally took the tie on board 14. It was Warwickshire's superior endgame play that made the difference. Thanks to Warwickshire for some good games and to Ray and Eunice Dolan for hosting the event.
