David Short has retired as Secretary of Lichfield Chess club after 20 successful years in the post. A club spokesman has stated: David is a superb organiser and he brought his experience of nurturing his son, Grandmaster Nigel Short to invigorate the membership at Lichfield. David is a great organiser and administrator and with his experience as a newspaper editor, a very good communicator. David will stay with the club and will retain his interest in introducing new members.
His successor as Secretary is Stephen Smithson whose quiet efficiency has been observed at meetings and visits to Lichfield Chess Club.
The County Association would like to congratulate David for all his hard work and wish Stephen all the best in his new post.
